Arms Supplier Behind Nangal VHP Leader Murder Finally Caught
In a significant development, the Special Cell Unit of the Delhi Police, in collaboration with the National Investigation Agency (NIA), has arrested a 22-year-old arms supplier, Dharminder Kumar, also known as Kunal, in connection with the murder of Vikas Prabhakar, alias Vikas Bagga. Bagga, who was the president of the Nangal unit of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), was tragically shot dead on April 13, 2024, at his confectionery shop in Nangal by unidentified gunmen.
The case, initially investigated by the Nangal police, was later transferred to the NIA in May, as the investigation intensified and the need for a more specialized approach became apparent. Following a tip-off, a coordinated effort by law enforcement agencies led to Dharminder’s arrest in Ludhiana. According to Pramod Singh Kushwah, Additional Commissioner of Police (Special Cell), the police received specific intelligence that enabled them to track down Dharminder, and the information was subsequently shared with the NIA.
Dharminder’s involvement in the case is particularly concerning due to his prior criminal record. He has previously been booked under the Arms Act in both Madhya Pradesh and Punjab for his illegal activities related to arms supply. His arrest has shed light on the broader network involved in the murder of Bagga, with Dharminder reportedly acting as a key link in the chain of events leading to the assassination.
Upon his arrest, Dharminder confessed to having been in contact with an individual based in the Middle East through social media, shortly after his release from jail in April 2024. This individual allegedly instructed Dharminder to arrange weapons for the operation. Following these instructions, Dharminder procured the firearms from Madhya Pradesh and delivered them to the assassins who executed the murder of Vikas Bagga.
This arrest is expected to play a crucial role in unraveling the full extent of the conspiracy behind Bagga’s murder and could potentially lead to the identification and apprehension of other individuals involved in the crime. The involvement of an international connection in the case adds a layer of complexity, hinting at a larger and more organized network of illegal arms trafficking with possible links to other criminal activities.
The investigation is ongoing, with the NIA and Special Cell working closely to gather more evidence and uncover further details. The arrest of Dharminder Kumar is a significant breakthrough, but it also underscores the persistent challenge of illegal arms trafficking in India, as well as the dangers posed by cross-border criminal networks.
