American NRI Sukhchain Singh shot and escaped in Amritsar
A 43-year-old non-resident Indian (NRI) Sukhchain Singh, who had recently returned from the US, was shot dead by two unidentified assailants at his home in Daburji area of Amritsar, Punjab. The incident took place around 7:15 am on Saturday morning, as confirmed by the local police. The assailants allegedly entered Sukhchain Singh’s residence and opened fire at close range despite his wife and child’s pleas for mercy.
According to the police, Singh was brushing his teeth when two armed men arrived at his gate, inquiring about the registration certificate of his Mercedes car parked in the yard. When Sukhchain questioned his identity, they forcibly took him inside the house and after a heated argument, they fired three bullets at him, two of which hit. Unfortunately, Sukhchain Singh sustained serious injuries, one bullet hitting him in the head and another in his arm. Currently, he is in critical condition and is unable to speak.
The police are investigating the incident, with the victim’s family raising suspicions that the relatives of Sukhchain Singh’s ex-wife may be involved in the attack. Sukhchain Singh first wife died by suicide in 2022, and his family filed a complaint against him and his relatives, although only his mother was in India at the time. Since then, Sukhchain Singh has been receiving threats from his former father-in-law, which is being considered in the ongoing investigation.
CCTV footage of the incident captured the assailant fleeing the scene after his pistol misfired. The faces of the attackers were clearly visible in the footage and the police are confident that they will be identified soon.
Amritsar Police Commissioner Ranjit Singh Dhillon visited the spot and an FIR was registered against family members of Singh’s first wife based on her mother’s statement. Shiromani Akali Dal (Akali Dal) president Sukhbir Singh Badal and BJP leader Taranjit Singh Sandhu have criticized the law and order situation in Punjab, saying such incidents highlight the growing insecurity in the state, and the case has sparked political backlash. has given birth to
