Rape Allegations, Farmers’ Protest: AAP Demands Resignation Kangana
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has demanded that Bollywood actress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Kangana Ranaut provide evidence for her recent claims that women were raped during the farmers’ protests, or resign from her position in the Lok Sabha. This call was made during a press conference held on Monday by AAP legislators Jeevan Jyot Kaur, Amandeep Kaur Arora, and the party’s state women wing president, Preeti Malhotra.
During the conference, the AAP leaders accused Ranaut of making deliberate statements aimed at defaming both the farmers and women of Punjab. Jeevan Jyot Kaur, the MLA from Amritsar East, asserted that Ranaut’s remarks were not only unfounded but also deeply insulting to the people of Punjab. She insisted that Ranaut either substantiate her allegations with concrete evidence or issue a public apology to the farmers and women of the state.
“Kangana should present proof or apologize to the farmers and women of Punjab. If she fails to do so, she must step down from her position,” Jeevan Jyot Kaur stated. She also urged Punjab’s BJP leaders to clarify their position on Ranaut’s comments, questioning whether they support the farmers and women of Punjab or stand by their party’s MP.
The AAP leaders did not stop at demanding accountability from Kangana Ranaut alone. They also directed their ire towards the BJP, accusing the ruling party of working against the interests of Punjab. Jeevan Jyot Kaur alleged that since the BJP assumed power at the Centre, it has consistently undermined the state, citing the withholding of funds from the Rural Development Fund and the National Health Mission as examples.
Amandeep Kaur Arora, another AAP MLA present at the conference, echoed these sentiments, demanding that BJP leaders publicly condemn Ranaut’s statements and push for disciplinary action against her. “If the BJP truly stands with the farmers and women of Punjab, their leaders need to take up this issue with the central leadership and demand Kangana’s expulsion from the party,” Arora emphasized.
The controversy stems from a series of statements made by Ranaut, who has been a vocal critic of the farmers’ protests that took place across India, particularly in Punjab, against the central government’s agricultural laws.
