Jalandhar Police Arrest Gangster Associate Kannu Gujjar in Hoshiarpur
Jalandhar, September 4, 2024 – In a decisive operation against organized crime, the Jalandhar Commissionerate police successfully arrested Kannu Gujjar, a key associate of the infamous gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, following a high-stakes encounter at Rampur Billran village in Hoshiarpur. The encounter led to the recovery of a significant cache of weapons, further crippling the criminal network.
The arrest came just days after the capture of another Bhagwanpuria gang member, Naveen, alias Kaka, who was apprehended after a brief encounter at Lajpat Nagar on August 27. During that operation, the police recovered a pistol and 1kg of heroin, marking a major breakthrough in their ongoing efforts to dismantle the gang’s operations.
Director General of Police- DGP Gaurav Yadav provided details about the latest operation, stating that Gujjar was apprehended during a meticulously planned raid. During interrogation, Gujjar revealed that the gang was orchestrating a major criminal act in Jalandhar. He also disclosed the location of a hidden stash of illegal weapons behind Hamilton Tower on 66ft road in Jalandhar.
Upon reaching the location, Gujjar attempted to escape from police custody by opening fire using a pistol retrieved from the hidden cache. The police, acting swiftly, retaliated, resulting in gunshot injuries to Gujjar. His arrest is seen as a major victory in the fight against organized crime in the region.
Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma confirmed the seizure of eight pistols, 55 live cartridges, and eight magazines from the site. He emphasized that the operation is part of a broader strategy to root out gang-related activities and restore law and order in Jalandhar and surrounding areas.
The Jalandhar police’s recent operations reflect their commitment to tackling organized crime and ensuring the safety of the city’s residents. Further investigations are ongoing, and more arrests are expected as the police continue their crackdown on the Bhagwanpuria gang.
