FIR Filed Against Shyam Sundar Bhartia After Actor’s Allegations
In a significant legal development, the Thane police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against businessman Shyam Sundar Bhartia and his associate, Pooja Singh. This action comes in response to serious allegations of rape and fraud made by a Bollywood actor.
The FIR was lodged following the intervention of the Bombay High Court, which acted upon the actor’s claim that her initial complaint had been ignored by the police for an extended period.
The actor, represented by her legal advocates Mohammed Ahmed and Sofiya Shaikh, approached the High Court seeking judicial intervention. She contended that despite filing a detailed complaint on November 11, 2024, the local police had failed to take any substantive action for over three months.
During a recent hearing, Justices Revati Mohite-Dere and Dr. Neela Gokhale expressed concern over the apparent inaction and questioned the police regarding the undue delay.
When the court did not receive a satisfactory explanation from the police representatives, it escalated the matter by summoning the Thane police commissioner via video conferencing. In response, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rajkumar Dongre informed the court that the actor’s statement would be recorded promptly and an FIR would subsequently be registered.
The court emphasized that the ensuing investigation must proceed based on its merits, without any prejudice or bias.
The registered FIR encompasses serious charges, including rape, intentional insult, criminal intimidation, and violations under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. These charges reflect the gravity of the allegations and underscore the legal provisions designed to protect individuals from such offenses.
According to the petition, the actor recounted her initial encounter with Shyam Sundar Bhartia, the Chairman of Jubilant Food Works, facilitated by Pooja Singh at a Mumbai hotel. Bhartia reportedly expressed a keen interest in investing in a project proposed by the actor and subsequently invited her to Singapore for further discussions.
Upon her arrival in Singapore on May 18, 2023, the actor alleges that Bhartia and Singh coerced her into consuming intoxicating substances against her will. The petition claims that during this period, Bhartia subjected her to brutal sexual assault while Singh recorded the incident.

This alleged abuse purportedly continued over a span of three days, leaving the actor traumatized and vulnerable.
The actor further asserts that Bhartia and Singh utilized the recorded video as a means of blackmail, compelling her to engage in multiple meetings at various hotels in Mumbai and Delhi.
In addition to the alleged sexual exploitation, the actor accuses Singh of orchestrating financial fraud. Singh reportedly established a company with the promise that Bhartia would invest Rs 50 crore.
However, by March 18, 2024, only Rs 9.44 crore had been invested. Subsequently, Singh allegedly transferred this amount to her personal account without the actor’s knowledge or consent. Furthermore, Singh is accused of employing fraudulent digital signatures to unlawfully remove the actor from her position as a director within the company.
This case highlights critical issues surrounding the misuse of power, sexual exploitation, and financial fraud within professional and personal relationships. The allegations against prominent individuals like Shyam Sundar Bhartia bring to the forefront the challenges victims face in seeking justice, especially when influential figures are involved.
