State Cabinet Minister Brahm Shankar Jimpa Inaugurates Block-Level Sports Competitions Under ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan-2024’ in Hoshiarpur
Hoshiarpur, Punjab – State Cabinet Minister Brahm Shankar Jimpa today inaugurated the sports competitions of Hoshiarpur block-1 under the second phase of the block-level games as part of the ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan-2024’ initiative at Lajwanti Multipurpose Stadium. The event saw enthusiastic participation from players across the block.
Addressing the gathering, Cabinet Minister Jimpa emphasized the critical role of sports in youth development. “This initiative by the Punjab Government is a powerful medium to promote awareness about sports and to develop hidden talent,” he said. He further highlighted how sports play an essential role in not just physical and mental growth but also in fostering mutual harmony and unity in society.
Jimpa reiterated the Punjab Government’s mission to engage every youth in the state with sports, helping them stay away from drugs. The ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan’ initiative is aimed at identifying rural sports talent and elevating them to state and national levels. “Our goal is to see every youth of Punjab connected with sports for a healthier and drug-free future,” Jimpa added.
The inauguration was attended by various dignitaries, including Hoshiarpur Mayor Surinder Kumar, Senior Deputy Mayor Praveen Saini, Deputy Mayor Ranjita Chaudhary, Hoshiarpur Central Cooperative Bank chairman Vikram Sharma, and District Sports Officer Gurpreet Singh Bajwa, among others.
Meanwhile, in Jalandhar, MLA Jalandhar Central Raman Arora visited schools in the east block to encourage participants in the ongoing ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan’ games. Weather had disrupted the schedule for two days due to rain, but clear skies allowed the competitions to resume smoothly. In the under-14 girls kho-kho event, Sports Club Hamiri Khera secured first place, followed by Government High School Tajpur and St George Convent School. For the under-14 boys kho-kho, Government High School Puranpur won first place, followed by Sports Club Hamiri Khera and Government High School Tajpur.
In Nurmahal block, the under-14 boys kho-kho event saw Government Middle School Rajowal clinch the top spot, followed by Government Middle School Gudra and Government Middle School Talwan.
The block-level games are scheduled to conclude soon, celebrating the sports spirit and talent of Punjab’s youth across multiple districts.
