Faridabad Student Killed by Cow Vigilantes Mistaken as Cattle Smuggler
Faridabad, Haryana – In a shocking incident, a Class 12 student in Faridabad, Haryana, was allegedly chased and fatally shot by a group of cow vigilantes who mistakenly identified him and his friends as cattle smugglers. The incident, which occurred on August 23, has led to the arrest of five members of the vigilante group, police said on Monday.
The deceased, Aryan Mishra, was traveling with his friends Shanky, Harshit, and two girls in a Renault Duster when they were pursued by the vigilantes on the Delhi-Agra National Highway. The group of vigilantes, identified as Anil Kaushik, Varun, Krishna, Adesh, and Saurabh, had reportedly received information that cattle smugglers were operating in the area using a Renault Duster and a Toyota Fortuner.
According to sources, the vigilantes spotted the Duster car and ordered Harshit, who was driving, to stop. However, Harshit did not comply, fearing they were being targeted due to a personal feud involving their friend Shanky. The refusal to stop led to a high-speed chase that lasted approximately 30 kilometers.
The situation escalated when the vigilantes opened fire on the vehicle. Aryan, who was seated in the passenger seat, was struck near the neck by the first bullet. When Harshit eventually stopped the car, the attackers fired again, this time hitting Aryan in the chest. It was only after noticing the presence of two girls in the car that the vigilantes realized they might have targeted the wrong individuals and fled the scene.
Aryan was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries the following day.
The weapon used in the shooting was reported to be illegal, adding another layer of criminality to the incident. The five accused vigilantes are currently in police custody, and further investigation is ongoing.
This incident has sparked outrage in the community, raising serious concerns about the rise of vigilante justice and the lack of accountability among such groups in the region.
