Apart from the opinion, the court also allowed the polygraph tests of several others involved in the case, including Sandeep Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, and five others. The incident sparked widespread outrage, leading to protests across the country, especially in the medical community. Resident doctors’ associations in government hospitals across the country staged an 11-day strike in response to the crime, demanding justice for the slain doctor. The protests led to the suspension of all elective medical services, including outpatient departments (OPD), non-emergency surgeries, and diagnostic services. After the intervention of the Supreme Court of India, the strike was called off after the doctors appealed to resume their duties.
