In a solemn announcement, the Government of India has declared a seven-day national mourning period following the passing of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. The esteemed economist and statesman, aged 92, breathed his last on Thursday night at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi.

A Nation in Grief; Dr. Singh’s demise has left an indelible void in the nation’s political and economic landscape. As a of respect, all government programs for Friday have been canceled. The Union Cabinet convened at 11 am to pay homage to the departed leader and formalize the mourning protocols. During this period, the national flag will be flown at half-mast across the country, and there will be no official entertainment.

Congress Party’s Tribute; The Indian National Congress, under which Dr. Singh served as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, has also suspended all official activities, including its Foundation Day celebrations, for the next seven days. Party Secretary KC Venugopal stated, As mark of respect for the former Minister, the official programs of the National and its Day celebrations will suspended for the next seven days.

Dr. Singh was admitted to AIIMS after collapsing at his residence on December 26. An official bulletin from the hospital detailed that he was treated for age-related medical conditions and had experienced a sudden loss of consciousness. Despite prompt resusc efforts, he was pronounced at 9:51 PM
