Naveen Singh murder: 50-Year-Old NRI from Punjab Shot Dead in Chicago, Suspect Arrested
Chicago, USA – In a tragic incident, a 50-year-old Non-Resident Indian (NRI) from Punjab’s Kapurthala district was shot dead at his liquor store in Chicago on Tuesday night. The deceased, identified as Naveen Singh, had been living in the United States for nearly three decades and was a naturalized US citizen. The Chicago police have arrested a suspect in connection with the murder and sealed the liquor store to continue their investigation.
Naveen, who hailed from Kuka Talwandi village in Kapurthala, had moved to the US approximately 30 years ago and had established himself as a successful businessman, operating a liquor store in Chicago. According to reports from Naveen’s family, the fatal shooting occurred after a heated argument between Naveen and the assailant over a purchase at the store. The argument escalated, and the suspect allegedly fired multiple gunshots, killing Naveen on the spot.
Back in Kapurthala, Naveen’s relatives were shocked by the news. His cousin, Avtar Singh, shared details about how the family was informed of the incident early on Wednesday morning. “We were told that Naveen was shot following an argument over the sale of liquor, and he died immediately,” Avtar said. The family also confirmed that the police had taken swift action by arresting the accused and sealing the liquor store for further investigation.
Naveen Singh had built a successful life in the United States, running his liquor store for several years. He had become a well-known figure in the local community and had last visited India a few years ago with his family to attend a wedding. “Naveen had been in the US for almost 30 years and was well-settled. His sudden death has left us devastated,” Avtar added.
Chicago police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident. While the motive behind the shooting is still under investigation, the initial reports suggest that the argument escalated quickly, leading to the tragic shooting. The authorities have sealed the liquor store to gather more evidence and ensure a thorough examination of the crime scene.
Naveen’s family, both in the US and India, are awaiting further updates from the police as the investigation unfolds. The tragic killing of Naveen Singh has sent shockwaves through both his local community in Chicago and his home village in Punjab.
As the family mourns his untimely death, they hope for swift justice in the case.
