Punjab Computer Teachers Protest Hunger Strike Gains Momentum as Intensifies
Sangrur, Punjab – The hunger strike and statewide protest initiated by computer teachers in Punjab since September 1 is rapidly gaining momentum. On the 8th day of the protest, a large number of computer teachers, along with supporting organizations, gathered in Sangrur to show their solidarity with the ongoing movement.
During the event, teachers raised slogans against the Punjab government, voicing frustration over unmet promises. The protest march culminated at the local traffic square, where demonstrators burned an effigy of the Punjab government, expressing their displeasure with the inaction.
Computer teacher leaders Paramveer Singh, Jony Singla, Gurbakhsh Lal, and Lakhwinder Singh expressed that before the state assembly elections, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and other AAP leaders had assured them that their legitimate demands would be addressed.
However, no concrete action has been taken despite over 30 scheduled meetings with the Chief Minister, which were never held. Finance Minister Harpal Cheema’s claims of an empty treasury and Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains’ unfulfilled promises have only added to the frustration.
The teachers warned that if their demands were not met soon, they would turn the hunger strike into a fast to death. They also pledged to expand the protest statewide, holding the Punjab government responsible for any further consequences.
Several key figures, including DTF Provincial President Digvijay Pal Sharma, Kirti Kisan Union’s Bhupinder Singh Longowal, and others from the Democratic Teachers Front and 750 Librarian Union Punjab, declared their support for the teachers’ demands. They urged the government to act quickly to prevent further escalation.
In an act of social responsibility, a blood donation camp was organized by the protesting teachers, with many participants donating blood.
As the protest continues to grow, the Punjab government faces mounting pressure to address the computer teachers’ concerns and fulfill its pre-election promises.
