Scrap Dealer Detained in Connection with Baba Siddique Murder Case, Total Number of Accused Now Stands at 10
Mumbai’s crime branch made a significant breakthrough on Sunday in the high-profile murder case of NCP leader Baba Siddique, arresting a scrap dealer from Navi Mumbai. The accused, identified as 32-year-old Bhagwat Singh Om Singh, a native of Udaipur, Rajasthan, is alleged to have provided a weapon used in the crime. With this arrest, the number of suspects now in custody has reached 10.
The scrap dealer, Bhagwat Singh Om Singh, who lives and works in Navi Mumbai, was taken into custody following a raid by the crime branch. He was subsequently remanded to police custody until October 26 by a local court. The investigation revealed that Singh was linked to the supply of firearms used by the assailants who fatally shot Baba Siddique on October 12, outside the office of Siddique’s son, Zeeshan.
Baba Siddique, a prominent NCP leader, was murdered in broad daylight by three attackers. So far, two of the shooters have been arrested: 23-year-old Gurmail Baljit Singh and 19-year-old Dharmaraj Rajesh Kashyap. The main shooter, identified as Shivkumar Gautam, remains on the run, along with two others suspected of being involved in the murder conspiracy.
The notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang has claimed responsibility for orchestrating the murder, adding to the case’s complexity. The gang is known for its involvement in organized crime, including high-profile killings and extortion rackets across several states.
The Mumbai crime branch had already arrested five individuals last week who were accused of providing logistical support to the shooters. These suspects were identified as Nitin Gautam Sapre (32) — Sambhaji Kisan Pardhi (44) — Pradeep Dattu Thombre (37) — Chetan Dilip Pardhi, and Ram Fulchand Kanoujia (43).
According to police sources, the investigation has uncovered that the Sapre-led module had demanded a payment of ₹50 lakh from a mediator to carry out the killing of Baba Siddique. However, due to disagreements over the terms of the contract, the plan was abandoned. Two of these suspects reportedly conducted reconnaissance of Siddique’s office before the murder, while Sapre and Kanoujia kept watch on Siddique’s residence and office, taking photographs and videos.
The primary focus of the investigation now is to track down Shivkumar Gautam and two other absconders who played significant roles in the planning and execution of the murder. The police are also probing deeper into the alleged involvement of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and potential motives behind targeting Baba Siddique.
As the investigation unfolds, the authorities are leaving no stone unturned in unraveling the criminal network involved in the high-profile case. Further arrests and significant developments are anticipated as the probe progresses.
The murder of Baba Siddique, a well-known figure in Maharashtra’s political landscape, has sent shockwaves across the state. The brazen nature of the attack and the involvement of a notorious gang have raised concerns about the safety of public figures and the increasing influence of organized crime in urban areas.
The latest arrest marks a critical step towards solving the case, but it also underscores the challenges that law enforcement agencies face in tackling gang-related crime. The police continue to assure the public that they are committed to bringing all those involved to justice.
The investigation into Baba Siddique’s murder is ongoing, with the authorities working tirelessly to apprehend the remaining suspects and ensure justice for the slain leader and his family.
